Angelo Marcos Barba expressed his sadness today, November the 8th, 2023 when he shared a Remembrance Day photo to commemorate the lives lost due to Typhoon Yolanda.

“It has been 10 years since Yolanda made landfall in Tacloban,” Barba wrote.

Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Typhoon Yolanda, hit the Eastern Visayan region in 2013. According to government records, Yolanda is among the strongest storms in history as it sustained 315 kph winds. Barba said that it displaced millions of Filipinos, took approximately 6,000 lives, and caused almost P100 billion in damage.

The Representative of the Second Congressional District of Ilocos Norte added that “No words can express our deep sadness for the lives lost and the devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda.” The note was then translated by his friends from the Visayas, a text that the congressman included in the the post.

“Walay pulong nga makahulagway sa kalawom sa among kagul-anan sa nakabsan sa mga kinabuhi tungod sa katalagman sa dihang mihampak ang Bagyong Yolanda.”

Several non-government organizations blame climate change for the extreme weather disturbances in the country.

It is noted by the Office of Congressman Angelo Marcos Barba that the representative is a staunch advocate for the environment. This is seen in the House Bills that he filed in the past few years which include wilderness preservation and environmental protection.
